DRAGONFLY SYMBOLIC OR MYSTICAL

I was asked this week a curious question “why dragonfly?” when I was choosing a name for my business.\r\n\r\nIt never once occurred to me that my personal story about the name might interest someone, but it did so I began the story…. When I was finished she asked if it was there for all to read on my website, I replied no. The thought had not crossed my mind, but as it seems to be a pretty common question these days I thought I might put it out there for all.\r\nSo it begins…. We grew up on the river Vermillion to be exact outside of Chelmsford and before Azilda for you Northern folks. So we would see dragonflies day in and day out on the water, my dad was always mesmerized by them, you have to understand that my dad used to try telling us he was part wolf, and being as naïve as we were, my sibling and I believed him. As long as I can remember he always loved the outdoors, even before his last days, early morning he was up at sunrise, sitting outside having a coffee. We were taught you do not kill an animal hunting unless you planned on eating it for food, you respected the water and Mother Nature, and all animals had a right and place in our world, including Dragonflies. He had a theory that dragonflies are loved ones coming back to earth to bring a message from above, hence the second set of wings, but that they are so quick we have a hard time hearing the words. You see the dragonfly totem carries the wisdom of transformation and adaptability in life. As spirit animal, the dragonfly is connected to the symbolism of change and light.\r\n\r\nWhen the dragonfly shows up in your life, it may remind you to bring a bit more lightness and joy into your life. Or so the story goes. We will move ahead years now.\r\n\r\nSo the weekend after my father’s funeral, my husband John and our two children Krystle and Adam go up fishing on Onaping Lake. We launch and there is this beautiful dragonfly that stays will our whole journey, the kids kept saying it was Grandpa Gerry, and he was spending the day fishing with us. Symbolic or mystical I do not know, but I do believe in the wisdom of our fathers and maybe just maybe that little old man I called dad, was onto something. When I had to choose a name for my business and discussed it with my brother Jamie, it was a no brainer as they say, and when you look at my logo and see the little set of angel wings, you now know why. Dragonfly Advisory Services is personal for me. It is my journey and it reminds me of the loved ones lost, but also of all those gone who are now walk beside me and are guiding me and helping bring a little light into someone else’s life just not here physically. So the next time you see a dragonfly, is it someone you knew coming to say hi? Till next time……
